1968 Lancia Fulvia Series I

  • Desirable Series I with alloy panels (hood, doors, trunk)

  • Recent paint and beautifully preserved interior

  • Fully serviced and turn-key, new clutch this year

Originally delivered in Bergamo (near Milan), this Fulvia eventually ended up in the Netherlands, where we discovered her hidden away amongst a large collection in 2014. After nearly a year of adventures in this little white coupe she found a new home with a local enthusiast and began an extensive refurbishment. A proper Series I example with the rare and desirable alloy panels, this car resisted the trend of modifying early Fulvias into Fanalone clones and is extremely original throughout.

Fully repainted a few years ago, this Fulvia presents beautifully, featuring an even gloss and tidy panel gaps. Underneath, the floors are in excellent shape, as are the box sections and subframe. Badging, chrome, and glass all present equally well, while the wheels sport pristine paint and wonderful Lancia hubcaps. As with all Lancia cars of the pre-Fiat period, the doors shut with an authoritative thunk, while little details delight at every turn, including the unique Dutch historic plates that are still affixed to each bumper.

Inside, the airy and bright cabin remains largely untouched. It's hard to miss the stunning dash, with its bold, varnished wood fascia and striking instrumentation. Complemented by a flawless dash top and delicate, wood-rimmed wheel, the view forward is reminiscent of a much flashier period automobile. Everything works well, though the fuel gauge is currently inoperative and the clock needs a servicing. Below, the famed "long lever" four speed extends from the floor, its throws perfectly weighted and its engagement necessitating only a flick of the wrist. Each black vinyl seat is in excellent condition, with only a few minor seam splits to note. Above, the original headliner appears tight and fresh, while a correct rubber mat set covers the expansive floor pan. In the trunk, the tool kit, spare wheel, and rare, blue Battaini jack are all present and correct.

Fully sorted and benefitting from a recent clutch, the driving experience in this Fulvia is truly second to none. The 818.100 1.2 engine punches well above its weight, thanks to an impeccable tune and some sporty cams. The twin Solex carbs make a satisfying noise and stay perfectly in sync, while the Dunlop disc brakes and simple yet effective suspension ensure fun in the twisty bits. Completely turn-key, this car gives the indescribable sensation of a well-preserved, original example at its absolute best.
