1959 Fiat-Abarth 750 GT Zagato “Double Bubble”

• Matching numbers, engine recently rebuilt at Dominick's in White Plains, NY

• Extremely dry and original example throughout

• Thousands spent on servicing over the last ten years

This Abarth Zagato's known history stretches back to the early/mid-70s, where it was in the Pennsylvania collection of a Ronald Bucher. By the early '90s it had been repatriated to Europe via Joop Stolze in the Netherlands, and spent time in England around 2007 at Middle Barton Garage in Chipping Norton. After extensive servicing, it returned to the US and has been in a collection in Maine ever since.

The car is largely original throughout and looks very straight and dry underneath. It has been painted before, and while the current coat displays excellent clarity and luster there are some areas of bubbling/bad prep, especially on the corners of the hood and doors. Overall it presents well--not too precious to take on a long drive, but also not shabby.

Inside, the wonderful two-tone blue and beige interior has been well-preserved all these years, the only notable flaws being some staining on the carpets and small scuffs here and there. The unique, stitched headliner is in great shape and really accentuates the signature "double bubble" roof, while the stunning original instrumentation accentuates the view forward. Everything in the cabin appears to function correctly, though one of the thin, plexiglass rain gutters (on the driver's side) is broken.

Pull the familiar (to Fiat fans) starter lever and the freshly rebuilt, matching numbers engine roars to life easily and without any undue smoke. A precise four-speed gearbox is a joy to use and features a fetching Abarth gear knob, while the brakes work well after their rebuild in England. Eager to rev and exceptionally nimble, the Double Bubble truly is a pleasure on a good road, and punches far above its tiny weight. There's very little left to sort out on this example, and it will be an excellent companion for any event or rally.
